The House of Flying Daggers

This is very colorful movie, with excellent picturizations and awesome action. It belongs in the genre of movies like "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "The Hero". The movie starts with a lot of political intrigue with the daughter of the dead rebel army's leader being captured by the goverment. A government's warrior frees and befriends her as part of a mission to find the new leader of the rebel army. The movies has a lot of twists and turns. The hunter becomes the hunted and things like that. The only problem with the movies is that it starts as a thriller with a lot of political warfare (a.k.a The Hero) but the movies ends totally as love story. For a movie with so many twists and turns the ending almost seems anti-climatic. It lacks a final punch, its like you miss the sense of closure. But it is a fairly decent movie, just don't expect a "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". It keeps you entertained most of the time. I would give it three stars out of five (***).

Kya Kool Hai Hum

Well, i happened to see this movie tonigth with my friends. Well i thought at first that the movie will be stupid. At the start i was proved wrong, but finally i was proved right. The movie as such has no story. ITs pretty much a mix of many pictures, like Miss Congeniality, the famous scene from Psycho, even some of 40 Days and 40 Nigths. In the end, it leaves you frustrated. The start of the movie is nice. I enjoyed the dialogues, and the innuendos. However, after about 90 mins into the movie, you could here people shouting, when will the torture end. The last hour to hour and half is bad. The first one hour or so is good. In fact that what you should see. Some of the jokes are nice and some situatiosn created are good too. However, they only last for about an hour. The actors are Gay. The actresses seem good. However, the expressions of Isha Koppikar are pathetic. She does not know how to act. Also she has a not so good voice. If it was assumed for the role, or if it is actual, in the film, i did not like it. Neha Dhupia looks hot, however, she has a not so significant role. They even have a dance song picturised on Shoma Anand and Anupam Kher. Now that is not for teh faint hearted. I mean Shoma Anand was good looking, but that was 20 years ago. Right now only a "certain" class of people will like her. Anupam Kher keeps spitting out mindless crap. All in all the pic is pathetic. Its good in the first part, but its so bad in the second that it mitigates the good it does in the first. Infact, when i started it, in the first half i was saying "Lets see it again some time else" .. after one hour ... "man when will this get over " and finally " lets return the DVD tomorrow itself" lest, some one makes the mistake of restarting the movie .....

Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Well its finally out. The final instalment of the Star Wars Saga is out and has lived up to its expectations. There are no surprises though, simply because we know what happens in the next episode. In fact, the last 30 mins of the movie can be simply considered to be the prelude to the initial trilogy. War has come to the galaxy, and senator Palpatine has been kidnapped by the evil droid general Grevious who is actually half man. Anakin and Obe Wan go to rescue him. however, Count Dooku show up and there is a fight. Eventually Anakin kills an unarmed Dooku, against the Jedi rules and goes one step closer to the dark side. In fact it is Palpatine, who eventually is the Sith Lord Sidious. The entire movie shows how Anakin is lured by power and love. To save his love, he thinks he needs more power. Ofcourse this is all Palpatines doing. Eventually Palpatine makes Anakin his new apprentice, Darth Vader, and gets the entire Jedi Council killed. Anakin also kills all the yound jedi in training. Finally there is a showdown between Anakin and Obe Wan, where anakin is left in pain and burnt body. Eventually, the emporer finds him and converts him to Darth Vader as we know him. The scenes have been wonderfully shot. There are more droids, more machines, more wars and more jedi. Infact the finale, shows the battle between yoda and the Emporer and Obe Wan and anakin. They have been wonderfully shot and choreographed. Also the war between Obe wan and general Sidious is nice.Infact visually, the whole picture has been made as a masterpiece of digital artistry. Eventually in the end Luke and Leah are born. Luke goes to his unlce and aunt on Tatooine. Leah joins her uncle in the rebels from Naboo. Yoda goes into exile, and obe wan goes to Tatooine to look over the boy. Also the emporer starts his work on the First Death Star.
In terms of acting, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman are pathetic. Luckily anakin does not have anything to do, but be angry. Hayden fails at that. The scenes with hayden and natalie are the only negative point of the movie. We even get to see a lot more Wookies, than just Chewbacca in the initial trilogy. Scenes wise the movie is brilliantly shot too, be it space, or the fiery hell at Mustafar, the final battle scene between obe wan and anakin, or the space wars at the start of the movie. R2D2 also seems to have quite a significat role at the start, besides just beeping and clicking. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will love this movie. If you are not a fan, you will begin to like Star Wars. Also this kind of puts you up for the initial trilogy in case you missed it. So now the story is complete. We see a young anakin Skywalker, the hope of the jedi in the frist. We see him turn arrogant in the second, and take small steps towards the dark side with the killing of the sand people. In the third, he is fully corrupted and becomes Darth Vader. In the fourth, his son, Luke, aspires to become a jedi. In the fifth, Luke learns that Vader is his father. And finally in the sixth, he gets his father back onto the good side who then kills the emporer. Finally, in the seveth ( which is not going to be made ) Luke sets up the Jedi Academy to restart the Jedi order. What happens then on, only Mr. Lucas can tell....

Well this is a nice movie. Its a combingation of your Indiana Jones and National Treasure. It has a very typical setup. A hero, his funny sidekick, a beautiful damsel, a screaming boss and a villian who wants to destroy the world, though in this case, inadvertently destroy the world. Also throw in your corrupt businessman. The movie is about Macoghany, and his sideckick who salvage for a private company led by Willam H. Macy. They are on the search for the lost armoured ship from the american civil war. Some people say it never existed. However, he finds proof that it did and that it is stranded for 150 years in Mali in the Sahara desert. At the same time a doctor with the WHO ( Cruz ) also thinks that there is a plague coming from contaminated waters in Mali. Why the water is contaminated, the "businessman" will not say. Also there is a civil war in Mali and the main general is out to get our heros and the doctors, before they stumble on the truth about the plague. He does not know about the ship yet. Eventually they find the ship, and also use it to their advantage. The scenes in Africa are good, especially teh desert. The dunes look wonderful . Cruz is wasted. SHe has no "good" scenes in the movie. Also her english is far from decipherable. I would consider this to be your action adventure types. Though in the first 30 -40 minutes there is nothing. But after that when the action starts, besides a few pauses, there is complete action. The sequences are well shot. Also did i forget to mention that the protagonists are ex Army men too ... and they get hold of the plan just in time to realise that a little late from now .. and its doom for the world ...( where have i heard that before )

Kingdom of Heaven

Brilliant movie. good Acting and Politcally correct. I loved this movie. I am already a fan of history, so i really loved it, and also it seems most of the evnts have been shown in good light. The movie is about the first crussades by the christians against the Saracens. IT starts off with the dark truth about the protagonist Baliyan ( Bloom ) who then succeds his father to become the leader of his own little kingdom in the holy land. The king of Jerulsalem wants peace with the the Saracens, led by the legendry Salla-ud-din. However, some knights, from the order of the Templars, Guy de.. and Reynald de Chatlion, do not want peace. The story revolves around how when the king dies, Balian refises to become king because he wants t obe the ideal knight and serve his people. Eventually he is bound by his oath to protect the king and his people and hence he comes to the aid of Jerusalem when it is attacked by the Saracens, who after much harassing on part of the christians, attack. The seige is done with brilliant effects. The dialogue delivery, though at times being predictable, is still done well. The scenes seem to come straight off the Lord of the Rings, but they are more realistic, since this time it involves humans. Eventually the movie ends...with a truce, but it is said that the christians came again on a second crussade. Sallauddin being as humble and forgiving as he was was forced to take battle again ...

The hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

This is a good movie to kill some time. Its fairly Abstract, something that you will associate with Stanley Kubrick type films, though this is much better. People call this a Sci fi adventure. I choose to call it an upright British Comedy. You see all too often a lot of the styles, now common with movies and soaps in Britian. ofcourse, the ones that are comic. The movie is based on the book by the same name. It revolves around an Earthman, Arthur Dent, who wakes up one morning to find out that his home is going to demolished to make way for a new bypass. Little does he know that his planet is going to face the same fate and also that his best friend is an alien, and the girl he loves, is goung to be carged with the kidnapping of the president of space federations. The movie is then about how in the past an alien race asked the meaning of life and everything. The super computer took a long time to answer it and eventually gave the answer as 42. To find the true answer, the computer built another super computer which incorporates life itself and is indeed .................. I dont want to blow it. So the messed up story goes on and on ... there is talk of how god created earth and people .. and infact how once again, certain workers are going to rebuild it. Basically its a very good one time watch, however, i doubt anyone will watch it multiple times. Also its a bit different from the books. Arthur loves Trillian in the movies .... ;)

Hi folks.... i am back. Sorry for the deplay. Its just that i had school... and i was lazy and all.. however, summer is here now.. I see a movie everyday .. Some old, and some new.. I will now restart this blog ..... posting reviews as i see them .... HAppy reading
