Counterview: 'D'

The overview of the story is very well laid out by Priyavrat. To me this movie is more like a prequel to "Company". At the start of Company, Ajay Devgan severs ties from his ailing mentor and takes over the gang. "D" ends up with a similar story. You can imagine his "moll" becoming something like Manisha Koirala. It is another gangster movie. The novelty has gone from these movies. We have had Satya, Company, Ab Tak Chappan. I think there are a few plus points of the movie. There is lot of unsaid -- "note there is a acute lack of dailogue in the movie" that comes off beautifully. A few dailouges and then we see the characters talking with background music. THere is a sense of reality to the movie. Starting from the chawl where Randeep witnesses the killing. Ram Gopal Varma doesn't sugar coat anything. Another part was the story is very focussed. Its not a very long film and the movie is about Deshu's rise to becoming the Don. There is no altercation with the police, there is a little bit about politicians but not too much. I think that whats makes this movie watchable. Its the factor that story doesn't deviate into insignificant subplots. I think Randeep as an actor is a good find. Chunkey Pandey's role was very similar to Bhikhu Mahtre played by Manoj Bajpai.

I would call it an average movie. Give it 2 and half stars. See it if you like the underworld kind of movies.

D, The Company

Well i dont know if i got the name of the movie right. Is it just "D" or "D, The Company". In any case its the third installment of Ram Gopal Verma, glorifying the underworld. It seems to me like just another underworld movie, though some people say its like the story of Dawood Ibrahim. They have showed him wearing the same type of clothes, and also the trademark glasses. The story is about Dishu ( Hooda ) who works in Dubai and has to come to Mumbai due to the death of his parents. Jobless at the moment, he sees a few people from the underworld, killing a man in front of him and escaping with it. He then decides to get into it. The rest of the movie is how he rises from a mere hitman to a big Don. He also falls for an actress when he goes to take "care" of the hero of the film. He prospers well, enough to make the kids of the head Don uncomfortable. They have him sent to Gujrat, where he prospers again. This does not go well. They have his best friend killed ( Chunky Pandey afte a long long time ). Eventually he kills all of them and becomes the head Don. Thats where the movie ends. The plus point of the movie is that its a short film with no obnixious songs. However, it seems too flimsical. I dont know, it may have happened, but glorifying it in the way Mr Verma has, does not make any sense to me. What has he tried to prove ? everyone knows whats going on. The actors have acted well. But for some reason i did not like the movie at all. Isha Kopikar has acted well in this film for a change, even though it is not good by any standards, though it may be good from her other roles. Its relative. I think the hype that was made before the movie, will be its USP. I dont see anything else. Mr. Verma, i like your movies, i am sure you can do better. Change your theme .Enough underworld stuff. I say quit your new idea of glorifying the ladies behind the dons as the base of your future films and think up something better, else I will stop seeing it. Satya, whatever it was, was enough for me

MISS IT ....Well, i generally dont do hindi films, but since i happened to see this one, i think i will review it too. The movie is a waste of directorial resources. Has he tried to make it a horror flick, a thriller, a mystery .. what is it. The director uses music in pointless scenes to scare people. The first couple of times it works. However, for the rest of the movie, atleast me for one was able to predict that scene where the music suddenly blares is not a horror scene but just something stupid. I mean, if the hero opens his eyes form the sleep, you will hear a loud music as though he has seen a ghost. In one scene you see a hand moving accross the face of the hero, you think somethign is going to happen, but its his own hand. I mean, i found it pathetic. The story is about a group of people who go to "Orbit National Park" for a vacation. Their car ( a LExus Land Cruiser fully equipped with GPS.. do they have that in India ? ). You will keep seeing the director build up suspense, but thats a just a moment. Nothing else. As slow as he builds it, the faster he looses it. He has things about bad luck, black color, black cat etc. Eventually they enter a forrest with a guide. One of the characters wants to hunt, but none of the others want to. I dont even know what to write about this patheic story any more. The actors are all wasted. You can see that some of the scenes and dialogues are straight out of Final Destination ( especially the last scene ). Some scene seem to come out of the movie Predator too. Vivek Oberoi has a role of a character that thinks he is the greatest, he keeps saying "..nahin to maar doonga .... ". And the worst part is that the character of John Abraham, uses that sentence to think that Oberoi did the murders, not knowing that the murders had begun much before they had come. The actresses are mere bimbettes, walking in the jungle in micro minis. And then out of nowhere comes Ajay Devgan a jungle bloke who is actually a ghost .... sorry i had to leak it .. You dont need to be Einstein to figure it out. I mean, the way he talks and stuff .. you will figure out .. its no biggie. I dont know why he took such a hopeless role. I mean, he is a much much better actor than this. Well what can i say, DONT SEE IT. Instead spend the money taking your date out for a snack. This movie wil just get on your nerves. It did on mine.

Mr. And Mrs. Smith

Well this is a movie that one should see if he wants to just spend some time, maybe laughing. Its a nice movie, but i would say its a one time watch. Its not something i would watch multiple number of times. Also its one of those movies where the best parts of the movie are in the trailors. Yes, most of the good scenes are what we have been seeing over the past one month. However, it does have some funny dialogues. The story of the movie is nothing much. Mr Smith (Pitt) is a trained assasin and one of the best. He works for Company A. Mrs. Smith ( Joilie) is a trained assasin too, and works for another agency ... say Agency B. Both dont know their true identities. One thinks the other runs a construction company and the other is a stock solutions provider. However, on one of the missions, they identify each other and from there on hell breaks loose. Also, at this point let me make it clear that the move is a comedy and not a serious relationship issue movie or anything. The starting is funny and you should not miss it. Its when they go to the marriage counsellar. Thats where they say, in a way that makes the audience laugh a lot ( especially the two ladies beside me in the theater, it was like they found every dialogue in the movie funny ). How they met by chance over a mission in Bogota, five or six years ago, is a good "chance" meeting :P ... yeah its funn yat parts, but at times the movie does get a bit corny. I think the USP of the movie are Brad Pitt and Angelina Joile ( Brangelina as the american media puts them as ) . The film has no story. Vince Vaughn is wasted as Pitts friend, though his dialogue delivery is awesome. You can be sure that you will find every sentence he says funny. Brad pitt is nice, though he has nothing much to do. Angelina Jolie looks hot, yet again. She does he role well, and when she is there on the screen, i dont think any male in the auditorium, was nothing anything else. Its a one time watch. Go as a couple. you will enjoy more. However, once again, keep in mind, its not a film on the battle of the sexes, though some scenes will make you think so.
