The Party

Ok folks, its official, i am in OLD MODE... This here is a movie which is very old, form the late 60s i think. IT stars the legendary Sir Peter Sellars. This movie was banned in India since the government claimed that it shows indians in bad light. Later the ban was revoked and it was then that the people realised that it was indeed an awesome movie. I must have seen this movie like more than a million times. Its about a small time indian actor Hurundi V. Bakshi ( Sellars ) who is aspiring to make it big in Hollywood. HE does the small roles of hench men and all. On his first assignment he lands up wearing rolexes in in movies set for the year 1800 and all. He also manages to blow up a million dollar set and still get invited to the biggest party in hollywood ( how ..see the movie yaar ). The movie is basically about how this is his first "Caviar" party and how he trues to fit in, still keeping his indian roots. He makes new friends in his simple manner. The part where he has to pee badly is awesome .. also the dining table sequence has been brilliantly shot, not to mention the part where the russians come to the party and spice it up, much to the grievance of the host, who only wants to have a smoke with his business associates and the hostess, who wants everything to be perfect. Its an awesome watch. Really funny. I reccommend this movie to everyone. The late sir Peter Sellars does a wonderful "typical" indian accent too ( like Apu from the Simpsons )..also his acting is phenomenal, keeping in his tradition to be a versatile actor from the Pink Panther series where he plays a bumbling French officer.

Where Eagle's Dare

Yea ... i know this is a really old movie, but i saw it again .. recently ..for the hundreth or so time and i felt i should write something about it. The movie is one of the best world war II movies i have seen. Both Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood were awesome. The movie is about espionage and counter espionage. I will not tell what the movie is about because the very first scene itself, shows the plot in action. Though i will tell you , that , it is about the rescue of a british general who has been captured by the germans and held in a mountain fort, the only entry and exit for which is thourgh is a german military base camp. If that is not enough, to get to the castle you need to go by a trolley car, which is operated by the germans themselves. Also to make matters worse, a Gestapo ( Hitlers special Police ) officer is also curently stationed there. The story is about how the brits make a rescue team and save the general. There are a lot of plots, spies, counter plots and all. In the end the true german mole in the british command is identified. This is a brilliantly made movie, stunning scenes in the hills of Baveria, Germany. The mountains are completely snow capped. Though the escape does seem to be a bit stupendous, they do show how they plan it, so its not something out of the blue. Besides everyone, i would recommend this movie especially for those who like movies on the world wars. IT is definitely worth the 4$ rental from Block buster ( if you dont have the movie pass or netflix or any deal with you library or cable guy ). In fact, i have bought the movie :)

DHOOM

Nice Movie, TP Movie.. did not like it that much but i would say its ok. Since i had gone in my "Movie Spoiler" group, i enjoyed it. Was able to predict everything in the movie from the start. Though i must give it credit for having some good camera work and well choreographed fight sequences, well, atleast for Bollywood standards. The story is about how a mumbai top cop goes after a clever biker gang. Has high speed stuff, some mind blowing stunts ( them Rajnikanth types ). Rimi Sen though wasted, is extremely gorgeous. Cant say the same for Esha Deol though. The movie has brilliantly ripped stuff off Oceans Eleven, Matrix and The Fast and the Furious. The bikes are good, though i am not a biker guy, i am more of a car person. Well one way i relate to the movie, is that i too have a passion of driving fast, and invariably i do drive fast, expecially on the Mumbai Pune expressway, when in mumbai, or anywhere on the interstates, especially in Utah ...

Where's the party yaar

People, this movie is freaked awesome. I mean i was laughing through it all the time. I know its a bit far fetched how they have portrayed gujjus ( again ), but i still think it was in good humour. Its about a simpleton from gujarat who comes to Houston to pursue his masters. He has been told by the great Baba Bam Bam Bhole as to how he would meet the woman of his dreams. He bileves its true. Its typical, love after marriage, morning yoga, bath with the "lota", lots of hair oil, etc. the movie basically shows the tension between the ABCDs and the FOBs and the not so FOBs. something that really caught my attention was the soundtrack. It has the right songs at the right time. My favourite being the sequence when Kal Pen gets his friends for the "chaand chupa hai baadal mein ... " sequence. that scene was freaked funny. Its a funny movie if you take it in the right sense ... I loved it a lot. Also the names if the characters have been brilliantly thought of. This is only the third movie after American Desi and flavour, that i would reccomend , for this kind of a topic.

Black ( 4.5/5)

People may be knowing my taste for hindi movies. I still hold true the fact that they are all pathetic. However, after Lagaan and possibly Munnabhai, i guess this is one movie that i would reccommend people go see. It has been beautifully made. Though there are certain instances of "hamming", i would still say that all the cast has performed brilliantly. The story is pretty banal, nothing exceptional, but the way it has been portrayed, thats what makes it brilliant. The story begins when the McNelly family finds out that their eldest daughter is deaf, blind and possibly dunb. They try several doctors, but the eventual decission is that they send her to an institution for the blind. Thats when Mr. Sahay (Bachhan ) comes in. He is an old teacher who specializes in his own unique way to help the blind. He is called in. His methods are found to be very "medieval" by both the mom and the dad. However, mom thinks he can do it, and gives him the grace period which is the time for which the dad has gone to the business trip. From then on the story goes about his relationship with the kid. There are a few brilliantly shot scenes and dialogues. Like the one where she says "ma" to her mom after 7 years of silence, all the dialogues between the dad and Mr. sayaha and finally the graduation speech given in the end ( this speech actually got two tears in me eyes .. i know i am stunned too .. maybe i still have hope towards emotions .. though thats a different issue ). The movie goes, Sahaya gets alzhiemers disease, causing loss of memory and now its up to the student ( Michelle ) to teach the teacher (Sahaya) how he had taught her. I liked it a lot. Some people say iots melodramatic. I agree. You cant have people laughing in a movie touching such a topic. Initially i thought when people said this was Oscar meterial i thought they were just kidding, just like they claim that every other shahrukh movie is :P ... anyhows, i would reccommend his movie to everyone
